Renovation Project

The complete renovation of a three-bedroom townhouse in São Teotónio, located in the Southern Alentejo region just north of the Western Algarve, was executed within a six-month period. The project included the installation of a new kitchen and family bathroom, as well as the conversion of the garage into a luxurious ensuite for the master bedroom.

The team at Hartsen Algarve Construction undertook a comprehensive overhaul of the property. All windows and doors were replaced, and a new 'concrete style' tiled floor was installed throughout the house. Addressing the property's issues with overheating in summer and heat loss in winter, the team removed the roof and added insulation over the rafters. By raising the roof height by a few centimeters, they effectively resolved these issues without compromising the internal space.

The renovation also focused on enhancing the large open-plan living space. This area is now heated by a modern log burner, and the roof timbers were exposed and carefully sanded and treated, creating expansive open vaulted ceilings. This traditional method not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also helps prevent the rooms from overheating during the hot summer months.

The interior walls, which were in significant disrepair, received special attention. The team at Hartsen Algarve Construction replacedvall the plasterwork, finishing the walls with a clean white paint. This choice accentuates the clean lines of the new renovation and highlights the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into the project.

The rear courtyard garden was also meticulously renovated to create an inviting space for al fresco dining and a safe, private area for young children to play. This transformation turned the courtyard into a functional and aesthetically pleasing extension of the living space, perfect for enjoying the mild climate of the region.

Overall, the renovation not only modernised the townhouse but also addressed key issues related to comfort and energy efficiency, all while maintaining the character and charm of the original structure.
